About AIM

The Australian Institute of Management (AIM) is a not for profit entity which exists to develop, support, promote and practise the profession of management at all levels.

AIM adds capacity to managers by providing opportunities to learn, develop know-how and better understand practical management. We do this through a range of services in business and management training, events and seminars, coaching, research and publications, supported by a specialist management bookshop and library services geared to graduate school education. Our membership base is made up of over 3500 managers in Queensland and the Northern Territory and 550 company members.

We celebrate managers' achievements each year through the Australian Institute of Management Excellence Awards, run throughout Queensland and the Northern Territory. Our subsidiary company TheCyberInstitute is a leading e-learning solutions company.

The Australian Institute of Management - Qld & NT is a Registered Training Organisation (ID 0049) and accredited by the Office of Higher Education in Queensland.

Early days

On 26 July 1950, 52 businessmen met in Brisbane to lay the foundations for the Queensland branch of the Australian Institute of Management. Originally located in Eagle Street, AIM Queensland took up residence in its current premises in Spring Hill in 1964.

AIM's presence spread throughout the state with courses and events held in Cairns, Gladstone, Mackay, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast, Townsville, and Toowoomba. The Northern Territory branch was established in Darwin in the mid-1970s.

Today there are nine regional centres of AIM that deliver formal and informal learning services to their local communities.

In 2009 AIM established an office on the Gold Coast, a facility which supports training, events, coaching and executive development.

AIM historic merger – 70 years in the making

In November 2013, an historic merger took place between the Queensland and Northern Territory, New South Wales and ACT, Victorian and Tasmanian and South Australian divisions of the Australian Institute of Management. Read more
