1. Am I eligible to enrol?

To confirm eligibility for the AIM Graduate School postgraduate qualifications, complete the Application for Admission or contact the AIM Graduate School Manager on (07) 3227 4873.

2. What are the entry requirements?

Entrants to the Graduate Certificate Professional Management will:

Hold an undergraduate degree; plus two years management experience; or
Hold an Advanced Diploma or Diploma, and be able to demonstrate a minimum of three years management experience; or
Have five years management experience.

Entrants to the Graduate Diploma Management Innovation will:

Hold an undergraduate degree, plus two years management experience; or
Have completed the Graduate Certificate Professional Management.

Applicants must provide documentary evidence of all qualifications completed. The documentations must be appropriately certified by either the issuing body, or a Justice of the Peace.

3. Can I obtain a credit transfer?

If students have previously completed courses of study at postgraduate level at a recognised higher- education institution, they can apply for a credit transfer for those courses.

Students, who are seeking to obtain a credit transfer, must admit a written request for credit transfer, and any supporting documentation, including a list of topics covered, aims, objectives, textbooks, and methods of assessment, from those units completed at a recognised higher-education institution.

All applicants for credit are considered by the AIM Academic Director who will compare learning objectives and content of the course for which credit is sought, to ensure a 70 per cent commonality between the two courses.

The Academic Director will also take into account when the unit for which credit is sought was completed. Typically, a unit that was completed more than five years ago cannot be considered for a credit transfer.

Credit transfer may be granted for no more than 50 per cent of the units of the program.

4. Can I request a unit substitution?

A student who has successfully completed an undergraduate degree in a field of study reflected in one of AIM Graduate School's units may request a unit substitution.

This means that, for example, a student who has previously completed a Bachelor of Human Resources may apply for a substitute from Leading, Managing & Developing People. This will allow the student to substitute this unit for another AIM accredited postgraduate unit.

Students who are seeking to substitute a unit, must request this substitution in writing from the AIM Graduate School Manager, and provide a certified academic transcript displaying the successfully completed undergraduate degree from which they are seeking a substitute.

5. What are the costs involved?

Distance Mode: Course cost includes, a dedicated lecturer available via phone, email or Skype, comprehensive course notes including readings in soft copy.

6. How many intakes are there in a year?

Intensive and Standard courses are scheduled throughout the year. Students may commence any course by distance study on any Monday of the year

7. Which unit should I start with?

We recommend that you start with Leading, Managing & Developing People. However, students may gain entry to the AIM Graduate School programs commencing in the subject of their choice if that supports the individual’s learning and professional development needs.

8. What study mode would best suit me?

AIM understands the demands of contemporary management. That is why we have developed a range of delivery modes to suit a variety of schedules. You may choose to use a combination of study modes to complete your qualification.

Distance Mode
Students can commence distance learning any Monday of the year. There is no need to attend lectures. All assessments and classes are conducted entirely online. This mode best suits students who are not able to attend lectures or who prefer to study by a flexible mode.

Intensive Mode
Intensive courses are conducted during business hours at AIM Management House in Spring Hill, Brisbane. Classes are run for four consecutive days with a fifth follow up day scheduled by class consensus. This mode suits students who can secure four consecutive days away from work, those who are in fly in fly out positions and those who only have a short period of time in which to attend classes.

Standard Mode
Standard courses include three face-to-face days from 8.30am to 4.30pm at AIM Management House in Spring Hill, Brisbane, plus three virtual group meetings. This mode suits students who prefer face-to-face classes and peer interaction, but are unable to secure four consecutive days away from the workplace.

9. What kind of support can I expect?

Classes are delivered by experienced managers who understand the contemporary Australian workplace. They are specialists in their chosen field and facilitate group discussion and learning.

Lecturers are available by telephone and email to answer any course related questions.

10. How long will it take to complete the qualifications?

Students typically complete one course at a time using a combination of intensive, standard or distance modes. Therefore the Graduate Certificate Professional Management can be completed in approximately 12 months and the Graduate Diploma Management Innovation program in approximately 24 months.

Students can 'fast track’ the completion of a qualification by enrolling in more than one course at a time.

11. When are the classes held?

Intensive courses are held over four consecutive days from 8.30am to 4.30pm at AIM Management House in Spring Hill, Brisbane. A fifth follow-up day is scheduled based on class consensus.

Standard courses are held over three face-to-face days on the Monday of week one, five and eight of the 10 week course. A further three virtual group meetings are scheduled based on class consensus, but generally in week three, six and nine of the 10 week course.

Students wishing to study distance mode may commence the 10 week course of study from any Monday of the year. This distance mode is a major point of difference for the AIM Graduate School and one which offers maximum flexibility for busy managers regardless of where they live. There is no need for distance students to attend classes or exams.

12. What is the typical class size?

The AIM Graduate School has a commitment to small class sizes, typically between six to 15 participants.

13. What is expected in terms of workload?

Students should complete six to nine hours of self-directed study per week for each course in addition to attending lectures. This includes reading, preparation for lectures and preparation of assessment tasks.

Distance students should complete 12 to 15 hours of self-directed study per week.

14. Does AIM Graduate School accept credit transfers?

Credit may be granted for postgraduate courses completed with other higher education providers at the discretion of the AIM Graduate School Academic Director.

It is essential that the unit for which credit is being sought has significant similarity in terms of learning outcomes and depth of content and that the content covered in that course of study is still current.

15. Can I enrol in a single unit to see if it suits me?

Students may enrol in any unit offered by the AIM Graduate School as a single unit of study for professional development. On passing that unit, the student may then choose to seek entry to one of the qualifications.

16. What types of assessments are involved in postgraduate courses?

The format of assessment differs between each unit but generally involves a combination of reports, plans, projects, and presentations.

Report writing assessment tasks are based primarily on the student's organisational context and experience. Assessment at postgraduate level requires academic referencing and evidence of having read and synthesised the literature on a particular discipline.

17. What happens if circumstances beyond my control stop me from completing my course?

All students must understand and adhere to assessment due dates and follow the policy on seeking extensions. This requires you to provide evidence of special circumstances.

AIM is sensitive to the needs of practising managers and provides extensive support to enable assessments to be submitted by the due date. Students are encouraged to contact the AIM Graduate School for assistance on accessing policies and procedures that relate to support and extensions in special circumstances.

18. Is one of the delivery modes easier than the other?

Each of the delivery modes is designed to suit the needs of busy managers and different learning styles.

Each mode requires the same level of commitment and the same quantity and standard of assessment.

19. Can the AIM Graduate School tailor a program for my organisation?

Tailored programs are available for organisations seeking to significantly upgrade the skills of middle to senior managers.

The AIM Graduate School will work with the organisation to customise course material for 'best-fit' learning that matches the organisations culture and goals. Delivery schedules are carefully designed around organisational needs.

20. Who can I talk to about my study options?

Contact the AIM Graduate School to book a one-on-one session with a staff member from the AIM Graduate School. In this session potential students will develop an understanding of postgraduate study regardless of experience or preferred provider.
